SCENE AT THE MARKET

The large Melton Mowbray Market, situated between Scalford Road and Nottingham Road, with accesses to and from both, has been the locus of regular agricultural commercial activity since 1870 although Sheep, Cattle and other Markets existed in the town long before then.

September 2003 saw the market hosting the National Show and the Sale of Traditional Native Breeds for the first time and we have a DEDICATED PAGE to give you an idea of the event.

The link below will take you to a growing, amusing Gallery of snapshots of the Market and visitors taken at random and being added to frequently.

There are retail outlets also in the area, one of which, The Country Store as it was some years ago is shown below.

This large emporium (located on the Scalford Road, Melton Mowbray, immediately opposite the Cattle Market) is open 7 days a week and deals in all Farm Supplies, Equine foods, clothing and equipment, Agricultural and Horticultural items and much more.

And another similar but smaller establishment was at Thorpe End - Central Wool Growers and offered similar commodities.
