The National Show and the Sale of Traditional Native Breeds

Held in Melton for the first time on Friday/Saturday 12/13th September 2003 with some 150 breeders entering and hitherto held at the Royal Agricultural Showground, Stoneleigh this prestigious event has removed to Melton Market. The new venue is potentially more hygenic, its surface being concrete as opposed to grass, with the obvious benefits relative to foot-and-mouth disease.

Cattle:-
Beef Shorthorn, British White, Devon, Dexter, Gloucester, Hereford, Highland, Irish Moiled, Lincoln Red, Longhorn, Red Poll, Shetland and White Park.

Goats:-
Bagot

Sheep:-
Castlemilk Moorit, Cotswold, Greyface Dartmoor, Hebridean, Kerry Hill, Leicester Longwool, Lincoln Longwool, Llanwenog, Manx, Norfolk Horn, Oxford Down, Portland, North Ronaldsay, Rough Fell, Shetland, Shropshire, Soay, Southdown, Wensleydale, Wiltshire and Whitefaced Woodland.

Cattle and Sheep judging took place on a very warm, sunny day with the Poultry Show and auction Sale of ewes, cattle and rams taking place the day afterwards. Media coverage was a bonus for the Melton Market and tourism in the area.
