FARMERS' MARKET PAGE

With the reputation that Melton Mowbray has deservedly earned in the realms of markets it is not surprising that it supports to the full the mission so succinctly set out by the NAFM (The National Association of Farmers' Markets), to wit:

"To support a thriving UK network of Farmers' Markets which is bringing cusumers and farmers together to buy and sell local produce with benefits for farm incomes, the diversity of local foods, urban regeneration and the environment"

NAFM came into being -
To promote Farmers' Markets and assist in the formation of new ones
To support existing Farmers' Markets and enable them to expand and remain self-sustaining
To define and accredit the Farmers' Market concept and grant accreditation only to those markets which conform to the agreed criteria
To represent the interests of Farmers' Markets and lobby for measures that would help them, and
To seek support of the range of Regional, National and European agencies.

MELTON FARMERS MARKET main signboardTHE MELTON FARMERS' MARKET is a prime example of the description that "A Farmers' Market is one in which farmers, growers or producers from a defined local area are present in person to sell their own produce, direct to the public. All products sold should have been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, smoked or processed by the stallholder."
The Friday Farmers' Market was four years old on 25th April 2003 and many of the present Unit and Stall holders celebrated in customary fashion. A specially-designed carrier bag is being produced and this will add to the advertising of the Market by showing the Market details and the Market Tavern.

The various Unit tenants shown above are currently being canvassed for their individual descriptions and trade details for free display on this website. Already we are showing some of the individual traders and their Units on dedicated pages which you may see by clicking UNITS PAGE
